86-year-old Marie Delcher was one of the lucky ones to enjoy an untethered balloon flight in the Turf Valley balloon at the Preakness Celebration Balloon Festival. It's something she has dreamed of doing for 20 years, and the dream was finally fulfilled at the Preakness festivities by her son and co-passenger Charles Delcher, of Parkville.

Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, a dappled gray racehorse and a table of hand-painted jockey figurines.
All this, plus a visit from County Executive Ken Ulman, highlighted a colorful news conference that helped
make the point that Maryland's Preakness celebrations are not confined to Baltimore.

it includes a residential area with several hundred homes
and a resort. "It is close to everything," resident Bobbi Schubert says

from the site that the Turf Valley Resort sits on, between
Route 40 and I-70. The neighborhoods, developed by the owners of the
resort, their streets and cul-de-sacs bearing golf-type

Many beautiful photographs were submitted by local amateur photographers. With such a wonderful subject matter cloaked in bright colors it was difficult to take a bad picture!
The winning photo was submitted by Katie Hlubb of Ellicott City, Maryland. Katie offered seven breathtaking photos, some taken at the glow and some early the following morning. This shot was selected by the panel because of the beautiful night sky and the simplicity of the single balloon perfectly centered.
